Seattle Lit Community Catalog

The businesses and organizations in the catalog below are a big part of what makes Seattle a City of Literature. Whether you’re a longtime Seattleite, a recent transplant, or a visitor, you’ll find something to get excited about!

Using the options to filter or sort (on the left) or search (magnifying glass on the right), you can browse the riches of Seattle's books and writing communities. (Note that for now, the filter and search options are only available to desktop users.)

You can filter or sort by description, URL, category (nonprofit, bookseller, professional/trade org, etc.), particular groups emphasized, genre, discipline/specialty (editing, theatre, used vs. new books, etc.), whether they have programs for children, and address.

Community Catalog FAQs

Does an organization have to be within the Seattle city limits to be included?
While the UNESCO designation belongs to the municipality of Seattle, we all know that Seattle wouldn’t be half the city it is today without being a part of the larger metropolitan area. Generally, non-Seattle places/organizations are included if they are branches of a group with a Seattle presence (like a local bookstore chain), if there are Seattleites working with or contributing to technically non-Seattle organizations (like a residency or publication), or if it’s a notable, regularly occurring event that may draw people from Seattle (e.g. a conference).

I know of a group that should be on here and isn’t. What should I do?
Please let us know by filling out this form!

I see something wrong or inaccurate, or I have a suggestion about how to make this resource more effective. Who can I tell?
Please email us at executive at seattlecityoflit dot org with the organization name and the error you spotted. Thanks!

I’m an individual author—can I be in the catalog?
At the moment, we’re focusing on community organizations and businesses, but we may expand that in the future.

Are you listing individual programs/projects or just organizations?
For now, you won’t find, for example, Writers in the Schools (which is a fantastic program!) because it is a program of Seattle Arts & Lectures. However, you will see that SAL has the “programs for kids?” box checked.

What system are you using for this catalog, and what are the benefits/limitations?
This is currently the free version of Airtable. The “free” part is nice, and it’s very customizable, but if we can get the necessary resources, we hope to be able to upgrade to a paid version soon so we have access to more robust search features, mapping capacity, and more.

I have another question or comment that isn’t covered here.
Email it to us at executive at seattlecityoflit dot org and we’ll try to help!
